About us
We’re a small company consisting of like-minded people who missed seeing stories from Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, who love sci-fi, and appreciate the art and accomplishment of independent filmmaking.
Alex Vickers is the owner of Dark Matter Films. His vision was to rescue hidden treasures of film that Hollywood was incapable of understanding or releasing. Despite working in Hollywood himself, this was a personal mission for him. He longed for great stories like the ones told on the anthology series of yesteryear. Never content just to want something without acting upon it, Alex started traveling the world looking for stories that filled the void. He discovered they were being made but no one was getting to see them.
Why? Because Hollywood’s only concerned about maximum profits and doesn’t believe there’s any money in letting people see films they didn’t make and don’t appeal to the largest common denominator.
However, he knew he couldn’t be the only person wanting this type of programming. There had to be a select group of people still hungry for visionary science fiction, suspenseful morality tales, and fantastic voyages with endings that made you… think! He decided he would take a risk and start bringing these stories to the world himself and thus Dark Matter Films was born.
So we started getting in touch with filmmakers from around the world about bringing you their work. They were just as excited about the idea as we were. Filmmakers started sending in their films (many of which had been sitting on shelves) as they wanted to share their stories with people like YOU.
We also realized people just aren’t going to the movies as much anymore. People are getting tired of watching the same Hollywood dreck with the same story lines and same faces. And how did it start costing as much to go to a movie as a ballgame? Between parking, the tickets, popcorn and sodas…you’ve easily spent $30 or more and you won’t be able to watch the movie again if you’d like to.
TV viewership is also declining. Is that because of all the mindless, cheap reality shows? Or because they’ve dumbed down the scripted shows so everyone can easily understand the plot lines? Personally, we’d rather be challenged a little bit and have some room to draw our own conclusions than be spoon-fed like a child. Some things should always be left to interpretation and to the imagination… Thank you to everyone who has sent in their amazing feedback. Hearing how much you love these stories fuels our continuing search for the best stories only our subscribers like you will see!
We've learned our service isn't for everyone and we take that as a compliment. Ironically, if it was for everyone, there would be no need for DARK MATTER. So if you're satisfied with what's on TV nowadays, you won't see the value in it. If you want to be a part of a growing, global community of subscribers who appreciate a well-told tale produced without studio interference and see the value of receiving content unavailable anywhere else, DARK MATTER just may be for you...
